About the Author & the Journey Behind Living Rich as a Student in the Netherlands
Who Am I?
Hi, my name is Franklin Seute, an international/Dutch student/professional/writer who studied Mechatronics Engineering in the Netherlands. When I first arrived, I faced the same challenges many students encounter: high living costs, unfamiliar cultural norms, and the overwhelming task of balancing a student budget with the desire to explore and enjoy a new country.
Through trial and error, I discovered creative ways to stretch my budget while still living a rich and fulfilling life as a student. From navigating Dutch bureaucracy to finding the best deals, I turned my struggles into strategies. Inspired by my journey, I decided to share these tips and tricks with others who dream of thriving as students in the Netherlands.
Why I Wrote This Book
Moving to the Netherlands is an exciting adventure, but it can also feel daunting. Whether you’re an international student or an expat, the challenges of finding affordable housing, mastering public transportation, or even understanding Dutch customs can add up quickly.
I wrote Living Rich as a Student in the Netherlands to be your guide. It’s packed with practical advice, insider tips, and strategies to help you make the most of your experience without breaking the bank. My goal is simple: to help students not just survive, but thrive, in one of Europe’s most vibrant and student-friendly countries.

Started working with Deliveroo
In 2017, I began freelancing with Deliveroo, gaining valuable firsthand experience in managing a sole proprietorship (ZZP'er) and understanding the essentials of self-employment. Deliveroo is an online food delivery platform that connects customers with restaurants and couriers. Back then they paid €5 per order and later introduced a distance fee where you could get more for further distances. I saved up and bought an e-bike and was earning around €30 per hour as a student!
